Adventures Underground

Adventures Underground is one of our favorite local bookstores. Not only do they sell Wordherder books and sponsor readings and book signings, they’ve hosted book sales at our local writers’ conference, Rivers of Ink. In addition to books, this small-town, independent store is filled with games, comics, models and hobby supplies, vinyl records, Japanese treats, and toys. Insider Tip: it is a great place to shop for nieces and nephews at Christmas!

Suspension of Disbelief, by DeeAnna Galbraith

The technique whereby a person’s beliefs, or what they think they know to be true, are altered. People have been suspending disbelief ever since they could communicate. A hominid embellishing the story of taking down his prey; a tribal elder keeping alive the tale of his peoples’ origins; or a sixteenth century actor and playwright whose famous Sonnet 18 – compares a lady to a summer’s day. All edging out what our senses, or common sense, tells us is true. Read More

  • “Character development is strong throughout; the tween characters behave realistically and it will be a treat to stick with them as they grow up. This intelligent, engaging series is highly recommended for middle-grade and teen readers, who will eagerly look forward to the next installment” VOYA

Beyond the Door, the first in the Time Out of Time duet from Maureen Doyle McQuerry, weaves a compelling coming-of-age story with fantasy and mythology. With his love of learning and the game of Scrabble, Timothy James feels like the only person who understands him is his older sister, Sarah, and he’s fairly certain nothing interesting will ever happen to him. But one night, while his parents and sister are away, the door opens, and mythical creatures appear in his own living room! Soon, a mystery of unparalleled proportions begins to unfold, revealing an age-old battle of Light against Dark, and Timothy must embark on a quest to prevent the Dark from controlling the future and changing the past. But he can’t complete the quest alone. Timothy has to team up with his sister and the school bully, Jessica, to face an ancient evil, and in the process, this unlikely trio discover they are each more than meets the eye.

Here’s what’s being said about Beyond the Door:
