- Faleena Hopkins is a romance author who has written a series Cocker Brothers, The Cocky Series
- Hopkins applied for a received a trademark for the word “Cocky”.
- L. Smith and Melissa Jane prepared to release their work, Cocky Fiance, on Audible.
- Hopkins sent them a cease and desist.
- Romance authors on twitter (and presumably elsewhere) found out.
- The internet broke.

- Hopkins also filed for a wordmark – that would also include the font, but the licensing service she used for the “cocky” wordmark prohibited licensees from obtaining trade-/wordmarks on fonts from them.
