The First Line posts intriguing first lines of stories and invites writers to submit stories beginning with the specified first line. They solicit first line stories four times a year, and publish the stories selected. Check out their webpage for more details, including submission instructions.

The next First Line submissions, due November 1, must begin with the line:

George pressed the call button and said, “Mrs. Whitfield, you have a visitor.”
